Rioters in France have torched the 143-year-old town hall in Limoges, amid violent demonstrations and looting.

Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said about 550,000 people protested across France on Saturday, which France’s Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu blamed on the “ultra-left” despite many of the participants being second and third generation migrants.

In Marseille, rioters raised Palestinian flags inside the town hall, while separately, protestors put a Palestinian flag and hijab on a statue of Joan of Arc.

Austrian activist Martin Sellner said the riots were “a foretaste of the future for all of Western Europe,” and that the choice was “remigration or European collapse”. An estimated 1800 people have been arrested.
