Robertson to retire from politics

Grant Robertson news

Former Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Grant Robertson has announced his retirement from politics.

Robertson was the ‘right-hand man’ of former Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern during the COVID-19 ‘pandemic’, sharing a close friendship and personal bond.

Reflecting on his career Robertson said he was ‘proud’ of his contributions but the responsibilities took an ‘immense personal toll’ on him.

He revealed his departure plans to his caucus colleagues and had previously informed leader Chris Hipkins.

Robertson said he will transition to an academic role as vice-chancellor at Otago University, returning to an institution he said ‘shaped’ his early career.

Chris Hipkins told legacy media it had been an ’emotional day.’

‘It won’t come as a surprise to any of you, that Jacinda [Ardern] and Grant have been two of my best friends, not just at work, but in my life. Having had them both recently depart has not been easy,’ he said.

Robertson’s exit will see the crucial finance portfolio pass to Barbara Edmonds, the MP for Mana.

  1. Brilliant. Another one bites the dust.

Unsurprisingly the woke fiscally inept communist salad dodger is now heading off to run the woke fiscally inept communist Otago University.

How soon before Grant is hitting up his old mates at the Treasury for a bailout I wonder.

  2. The University of Otago is already broke
Having received a $21m bailout from the Government in 2023
Now that the economic whiz kid is about to perform his golden hat trick
Which served the country so well
Things are sure to get a lot better

  3. The man who financially broke NZ, told our children boys could be girls and girls could be boys or whatever, played along with the fake pandemic, agreed to the bashing of peaceful protesters and much, much more. He was a list MP because no sane person will vote for him. Now he wants us to believe he is voluntary quitting. He was asked to leave because he is costing votes, yet he still walks proud with his achievements. We all have to live poorer lives for this incompetent man. With his poll ratings, Hipkins, the man who pushed the jab every day on TV is next on the list. There are people who are dead because of these monsters. Looking forward to seeing these guys at 43-49 Ballance Street Wellington.

  4. The guy who can’t run a budget continues the gravy train at Otago…..so Lucky they got all that money from Labour aye.
Wink wink, just endless trough of doom for Otago.

  5. “Robertson’s exit will see the crucial finance portfolio pass to Barbara Edmonds, the MP for Mana”.

Indeed ‘crucial’ 😂😂the shadow cabinet has such an important and key role to play🤣😂 dreaming and scheming.

  6. Grand Robber followed his father’s foot step in a grand scale. His dad stole only from the compnay in which he was employed. On the other hand, globalist puppet stole the savers wealth by quantitative easing of $60 billion dollars. Kiwis are payng for this with higher inflation and this is going to last for years. I am sure the grand robber will sell many of the assets owned by the Otago University to “balance” the books. Such is slimy corruption. 🙁

  7. No brainer for the Uni. Labour looses, status quo. Labour wins, watch the funding flow like Niagara Falls! Oh to be sullied by woke ideology in NZ, the new cash (transgender LGBT+100) cow.
