Rotorua woman dies following September assault, suspect faces second murder charge

A woman who was critically injured during an assault at her home in Western Heights, Rotorua, has died from her injuries, police confirmed.

The assault, which occurred on September 23, also left her husband seriously injured. Both had been in hospital since the attack.

Tragically, the woman passed away on the evening of October 5.

A 52-year-old man, already charged with murder in connection with a related incident at an Utuhina property, will now face a second murder charge following the woman’s death.

The suspect is currently in custody and is scheduled to reappear in the Rotorua High Court on October 18.
