Sanson fatal fire being treated as homicide – police

Police can now confirm the fatal incident in Sanson on Saturday is being treated as a homicide.

The post mortem examination of the adult male has been completed. The three children are expected to undergo a post mortem tomorrow.

Manawatū Area Commander Inspector Ross Grantham wants to reassure the community that Police are not seeking anybody else in relation to this investigation.

“A forensic examination of the scene is ongoing, and it will take some time to get the results once that examination has been completed.

“A team of Police staff are working hard to get answers for the family, but I want to stress to the public that we will not have these answers immediately.”



“We would like to hear from anybody who may have information that could assist with our investigation.

“Police can be contacted by calling 105, or online at 105.police.govt.nz(link is external), clicking “Update Report” and referencing file number 251115/3940 or Operation Sanson.

“Information can also be provided anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.

“Police will release the identities of the deceased and any family-approved images when we are in a position to do so.”
