Security measures were strengthened at Christchurch’s legacy media outlet The Press after a man gained unauthorised access to the newsroom during building works and delivered a letter to the editor.
According to a report in state-funded media, a member reported hearing a reference to the 2015 Charlie Hebdo terror attack, although other employees nearby did not hear the remark.
A security guard was subsequently stationed in the building lobby and staff were advised to remain vigilant.
Police were not notified until five days after the incident but later identified and spoke with the individual, whom they assessed as posing a low risk. Authorities said the man was given advice about his behaviour, while owners Stuff maintained that no direct threat was made against newsroom staff.
So why didn’t the ‘buttercups’ disclose the contents of the letter?
Pathetic Stuff, usual making it sound worse than it is for some click bait.
“Given advice about his behaviour…”
