Severe weather to continue over much of NZ

A deep sub-tropical low moving across New Zealand is expected to bring widespread heavy rain, strong northeast winds, and hazardous coastal conditions over several days, with the most severe impacts forecast for the upper North Island where downpours, flooding, and slips are likely, and a Red Heavy Rain Warning remains in place for Northland.

Multiple regions including Auckland, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty, Tasman and the West Coast face significant rainfall totals, some exceeding 150–200mm, alongside gale-force winds gusting up to 120km/h, raising the risk of river rises, road closures, power outages, and dangerous driving conditions.

Authorities warn this is a multi-hazard event and urge the public to stay updated, avoid floodwaters, secure property, and be prepared for possible evacuation or disruption as conditions intensify.
