Severe weather warnings in force for northern and central New Zealand

Severe weather news

Heavy rain and gales for northern and central New Zealand.

A front is forecast to move slowly southwards over northern and central New Zealand during Monday and Tuesday. This front is preceded by a broad band of rain, with some heavy falls, and east to northeast gales. The largest rainfall accumulations are likely from Northland to East Cape, plus Mount Taranaki, western Tasman and Marlborough. Severe northeast gales are likely in exposed parts of Northland and Auckland.

People are advised to keep up to date with forecasts as further areas will likely be added, and some watches may be upgraded to a warning.
