Name suppression lapsed for 19 year old Alessandro Milgate-Vassalini on Thursday.
Milgate-Vassalini is the son of Curate Church leaders Joel and Katie Milgate.
On Thursday he was sentenced to 12 months home detention with a year’s post-release conditions for engaging in sex acts with two girls on separate occasions. Both victims were underaged, and much younger than the perpetrator, which aggravated the offending. Both victims told the court how they felt pressured and taken advantage of.
At his sentencing on Thursday, Milgate-Vassalini was spared prison mainly on account of his prospects for rehabilitation, which Judge Ingram considered were high.
‘The courts try as far as we can to keep people out of jail. We know people who go to jail have their prospects in life much reduced, and the prospects of rehabilitation are much reduced,’ said Judge Ingram.
Milgate-Vassalini’s name suppression had caused the victims additional emotional suffering because they were unable to talk about the offending until this week.
Both victims spoke in court about the effect Milgate-Vissalini’s predatory actions had had on their lives.
Strange how the son of a monarch here is named and shamed for minor traffic offences but the son of ‘lead pastors’ is judged a fit for ‘rehabilitation’ at home. One is led to question the sexual politics of the type of church which celebrates an obviously misinformed young man as to his rights and obligations in the HR department.
