At least 34 people, including eight children, have died and several remain missing after a tourist boat named Wonder Seas capsized during a sudden storm in Vietnam’s Ha Long Bay.
The vessel was carrying 53 people, mostly Vietnamese families from Hanoi, when it was hit by torrential rain, hail, and lightning.
Rescuers have saved 11 people so far, including a 10-year-old boy who survived by staying in an air pocket inside the overturned hull.
Adverse weather continues to hinder search efforts, which are ongoing. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh offered condolences, and the government has pledged a full investigation.
