Student in custody after teacher injured in Waikato school incident

Tuakau College lockdown

A teacher has been injured and a student taken into custody following an incident at Tuakau College in Waikato, which prompted a lockdown on Thursday morning.

Emergency services were called to the around 10am amid reports of an injury, with police confirming a young person was immediately detained.

While initial ambulance reports suggested serious harm, police later said the teacher was transported to hospital with minor injuries.



Authorities are continuing enquiries into what occurred but confirmed it involved a student and teacher, adding there is no wider risk to the public. The lockdown has since been lifted, though the school closed for the remainder of the day.
