Stuff columnist sparks outrage over use of c-word against female Ministers in pay equity criticism

Andrea Vance news
Andrea Vance.

A fiery column by Stuff journalist Andrea Vance targeting the Government’s halt on pay equity claims has ignited backlash for its use of the C-word directed at Finance Minister Nicola Willis and other female coalition MPs.

Vance accused the ministers of betraying underpaid women in feminised professions, prompting widespread condemnation from politicians including Judith Collins and former Prime Minister Dame Jenny Shipley, who called the language misogynistic and repulsive.

While the legacy mainstream media outlet defended the editorial decision, critics argued the shock value undermined the substance of Vance’s argument. PR and media commentators noted the language overshadowed the debate on systemic gender-based pay inequity.

  1. If she is working for stuff she is not a journalist. As for the pay gap there is no such thing, everybody in every job gets paid more or less than same one else in that same job and their gender has nothing to do with it.

  2. The MSM has been a political poodle, for far too long. Much as I don’t like Vance, its high time they demonstrated some genuine criticism, of the so called government. A government who seem to think they are above the people, they claim to represent.

  3. Predictable responses. If writing (and publishing) c*** which could be read as crab or crat or crum or curb or colt or cool or cash or camp or cell or chip then the inference is on the reader’s interpretation and preconception. Andrea Vance’s rant just explained what it was that was causing the anger and perturbation.
The great Ozzy Osbourne is an outrageous user of the word cunt, as are approximately 20million Australians and New Zealanders, often used affectionately as in “good cunt”. To make this storm in a teacup over ride the real issue is disingenuous.

  4. C-word… I thought we were talking about Cancer… oh – Legacy MSM opinion journalists… then yes we are talking about the same cancer.

    • C is for Conspiracy, as in the Covid Conspiracy, JFK Conspiracy, Zionist Conspiracy, etc…
On & on the conspiracies go…and it’s very true that the Zionist-controlled factions of the ‘Global Government’ have now infested and infected the due processes of government which is arrogantly elitists and have truly forgotten who they are supposed to represent and be working for!
No wonder they have made firearms ownership impossible…
But my new 3D printer is doing just fine…as are my home-based reloads…
After all; IF GUNS WERE OUTLAWED, ONLY OUTLAWS WOULD HAVE GUNS!
We see this in the Hawks Bay and further ‘up north’…BAWHAWHAWHAWHAWHAW…mememememe…lalalalala… ; – )

  5. Quite clear from this whole furore who the c*** is in this instance. No self-respecting journalist would write an abusive article such as this – but there again she’s not a proper journalist is she?
