Green Party co-leader Chlöe Swarbrick is facing fresh criticism after revelations she travelled business class to London recently for meetings arranged by the Insurance Council of New Zealand, while new expense figures suggest Green MPs are among the heaviest users of taxpayer-funded flights raising questions over the size of their “carbon footprints”.
Swarbrick was one of three MPs — alongside Commerce and Consumer Affairs Minister Scott Simpson and Labour’s Rachel Brooking — who attended reinsurance-focused meetings in London in mid-September. The trip, organised and partly funded by the Insurance Council, aimed to strengthen relationships between New Zealand lawmakers and global insurers. The Council said MPs’ travel was reimbursed at premium economy rates, with ministers covered by the Crown, while any upgrades to business class were claimed through parliamentary entitlements.
Critics argue such travel was unnecessary and “carbon-intensive”, especially for a Green Party leader who campaigns on “urgent climate action”. The Platform host Sean Plunket described the trip as a “junket,” questioning why MPs needed to meet insurers overseas when information could be accessed locally.
The trip coincides with fresh analysis of MPs’ expenses for the first half of 2025, which paints the Green Party in an unflattering light. According to figures compiled by political commentator Whangarei Tim, MPs from the Labour-Green-Te Pāti Māori opposition bloc spent on average 2.3 times more on expenses and domestic flights than government MPs. Green MPs in particular were singled out as “the worst domestic flight polluters,” with some spending nearly four times as much as their coalition counterparts.
On average, MPs’ domestic flights cost around $36,000 annually, but opposition MPs were projected to spend closer to $50,000, compared to about $21,000 for government MPs. When combined with salaries and allowances, some opposition MPs’ taxpayer-funded compensation was estimated at nearly $370,000 per year.
The Greens have long pushed for stronger “climate policies” and “reduced emissions”, yet its MPs are now accused of hypocrisy — calling for carbon cuts for average Kiwis while topping the charts in air travel spending.
While the Insurance Council insists the London meetings were “extremely valuable for the sector,” and parliamentary travel entitlements allow business class upgrades for party leaders, critics say the trips undermine the Greens’ credibility on so-called “climate change” and raise wider questions about the opposition’s spending priorities.
So the party the wants to kill the economy and people travelling are in fact the biggest users of travel by air.
Yeah I’m so surprised, not, FREE travel for life they get.
Time to pass legislation so they can’t hide what they are spending but like always they are exempt.
They’re lying.
We know they’re lying.
They know we know they’re lying.
They keep lying anyway ✈️ 💵

“We know that they are lying, they know that they are lying, they even know that we know they are lying, we also know that they know we know they are lying too, they of course know that we certainly know they know we know they are lying too as well, but they are still lying. In our country, the lie has become not just moral category, but the pillar industry of this country.”

“One of the saddest lessons of history is this: If we’ve been bamboozled long enough, we tend to reject any evidence of the bamboozle. We’re no longer interested in finding out the truth. The bamboozle has captured us. It’s simply too painful to acknowledge, even to ourselves, that we’ve been taken. Once you give a charlatan power over you, you almost never get it back.”

Sadly, your kind humanisic input is like the pearls before the swine.

They were Legion, and they were….MANY!…
All climate activists are hypocrites, unless they go live in a cave and hunt and gather.for survival.
They don’t even know how to do that!
Some pigs are more equal than other pigs.
Yet people still keep voting mainstream. The solution is right in front of you.

What do You expect from these dregs lowlife louse?
Chameleons who come into parliament under the camouflage of MMP
Which everybody was brainwashed into accepting for this very explicit purpose
Which stench of decay and decadence permeates the NZ Parliament
These people cannot and never will deliver anything worthwhile
Only to deliver us deeper into the morass of debt slavery
Never an asset but a liability on the wrong side of the ledger
Written off as a bad debt
😂. The hypocrisy is staggering.
What does that say about our voting public’s mentality? I don’t blame these idiots in parliament but those that put them there in the first place. They walk amongst us undetected, where delusion guides their voting preference.
A crazy communist hypocrite we all know climate change is all about destroying capitalism so they can bring in their communist agenda 2030.
It is important to keep an eye on the Green and Labor parties meeting up with Global Insurers because there is many things going on here with the big 4 Insurers pulling out of many areas like Marlborough Sounds, Blenheim etc. No renewals of polices done by post codes, No insurance means no mortgage also properties will be worthless. The Global Insures are saying no more backing to our Insures. This has happened because Local Councils have done an outrageous climate change risk assessment for a 100 years time computer modelling. Councils will add any Flood. Sea inundation etc onto your LIM Report without you knowing. So the big question is what was that meeting about especially their nutcase Climate Change beliefs, what will be coming next? Managed Retreat?
the big 4 Insurers…
please do tell more
FFS The AA, State, AMI and Tower home insurance. Insurance Brokers buy up policies from insurers such as these but when those policies have all gone there will be no more. I’m only giving people the heads up on whats happening.

Everything is free, but who pays to make the free stuff? Greens fantastic policy … leftist looneys
No real leftist woyld’ve accepted this jaunt from these massive globalist corporations who thieve from the poor to give to the rich. What a grifter.
Greens all over the world are war mongers and they are agents of the Globalists making money out of green washing in the public.
The combination of the Red Labour Party and the Green Party is essentially the Watermelon Party; green on the outside, and Communist Red on the inside.
They’re all Zio-Communists, even IF they don’t believe it themselves due to the sub-conscience brainwashing avec ‘la norm.
Do dildoes float though?
Insurance companies – screw kiwi businesses and households with exhorbitant premiums then never payout. Nothing but bandits and thieves in expensive office buildings.
What is this rubbish piece of rage bait? It’s more than common for MPs to travel to get policy ideas. Luxon did it to get the ridiculous failed policies half of the country voted for…
Meanwhile these “critics of Chlöe” are over here praising Shane Jones and David Seymour – two politicians blatantly captured by vested interests (one boasting about being wined and dined by fossil fuel execs, the other having worked for right-wing think tanks in Canada undermining indigenous rights for these same fossil fuel interests), who deny science and nod away and echo the lies told by the Trump administration.
Climate crisis is very real fellas. I’m not sure why you hate Greenies for speaking the truth – it was fossil fuel companies themselves that found out it was happening and spent billions covering it up for decades (link below). The insurance companies sure know it’s real…. Go ask them to tell you the truth if you struggle to understand it so much. It’s not about belief these days – it’s about understanding the science and financial implications – increasingly unstable and fierce weather patterns, already costing billions per year in cleanup and it will eventually destabilize financial markets and food systems – this is the consensus among all of the world’s leading climate scientists. The content and comments of this article show a load of people that have no idea, defending the traitors and views/profits of gross old fossil fuel billionaires – who externalise massive costs of their operation (think Tui oil field cleanup, climate crisis) onto the public and future generations – your kids!! – and hating those genuinely fighting for a livable future.
Chlöe had no choice but to fly, and I’m glad she did, “the car was built by people who rode horses”.

Joke article for the gullible and easily enraged
cannot get insurance in a certain area(coastal) therefore no loan for that land , so I guess blackrock will just buy it for pennies on the dollar. That peoples is what climate change is.
Dont be mean. Swarbrick is adding weight and economy class seat wont fit her body anymore. Merntal illness contributes to weight gain you know.
Can you imagine. Swarbrick fulfilling her dream of becoming the finance minister?
