Te Pāti Māori expels Kapa-Kingi and Ferris

Te Pati Maori news

Te Pāti Māori’s National Council has voted unanimously to expel MPs Mariameno Kapa-Kingi and Tākuta Ferris, following weeks of internal turmoil and public infighting.

The decision, announced by co-leaders Rawiri Waititi and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, came after “serious breaches” of the party’s constitution and extensive consultations across electorates and external groups such as the Iwi Chairs Forum.

Despite efforts toward reconciliation, the leadership said irreconcilable differences remained and that the expulsions were necessary to restore unity and focus on opposing the current government.

Both Kapa-Kingi and Ferris have rejected the decision as “unconstitutional” and vowed to appeal, with Kapa-Kingi declaring she remains the duly elected MP for Te Tai Tokerau.

Their expulsions follow weeks of escalating tensions involving party president John Tamihere, who has accused the MPs of attempting a coup, while they in turn alleged misconduct and mismanagement within the party. Waititi acknowledged the deep divisions and public fallout but said the council’s decision was final, aimed at bringing “stability back to the waka” and rebuilding the movement ahead of the next election.

  1. They must be totally obnoxious for the thugs to kick ’em outta the pig trough. I thought the superior race were above such shenanigans 😯

  2. Looks like some are waking up to the fact that a lot of money has gone through these hands and seemingly hasn’t benefited all the people underneath who could well do with honest support for all the loyalty and support they have given the Maori party.

It’s really time we just got rid of the Maori roll, it has distorted our democracy and allowed these radicals to rise to the top, and ferment division that was otherwise not there. MMP was supposed to make the system proportional and the Maori Roll was supposed to go then. Unfortunately the damage TPM have done in this country may never be undone,. Makes me sad for my country and our people. I am a 5th generation kiwi. My ancestors helped build this country – literally (they were builders). To be told by the leaders of the Maori Party I don’t belong and others telling me to go back to where I came from is nasty and it’s not going to win them any empathy from me. I belong here. I hope this ruction within the party brings to the surface every little thing they have done. It’s time for a cultural reset in this country where every human is regarded as equal in every facet of our life. Not human cattle to be milked, manipulated , disrespected and crapped all over just for existing.

    • TAMIHERE reminds me of the big black polythene rubbish bags homeless people use in NYC
