Teen arrested after violent Christchurch robbery that left worker seriously injured

Police have arrested a 17-year-old in connection with a series of recent crimes across Christchurch, including an aggravated robbery earlier this week that left a store worker seriously injured.

The youth was taken into custody in New Brighton on Thursday afternoon and is set to appear in the Youth Court facing multiple charges, including burglary, aggravated robbery, and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Officers say they are working quickly to identify others involved in the incident and a wider spike in youth offending across the city.

Police earlier announced a targeted operation—dubbed Operation Anchor—to boost resources and curb the recent surge in violent and property crimes. Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact police on 105 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
