Four teenagers have been arrested after a failed attempt to steal backpacks full of chocolate and meat from a supermarket in Highland Park, East Auckland on Sunday evening.
Police were called to the store around 5pm after staff reported a group filling bags with products. Counties Manukau East Area Prevention Manager, Inspector Rakana Cook, said officers arrived within minutes to find offenders attempting to leave with nearly \$700 worth of stolen goods.
“Police staff entered the supermarket as some of the offenders were attempting to walk out and stopped them in their tracks,” Inspector Cook said.
During the arrests, one teenager allegedly assaulted a member of the public who had stepped in to help, while another spat at a police constable. “The group’s aggressive behaviour is unacceptable, and they will be held to account through the Youth Aid process,” Cook said.
Those arrested include two 16-year-old females and two males, aged 13 and 16. Police are still seeking a fifth offender who fled the scene. Investigators are also trying to identify the member of the public who assisted but left before officers could speak with him.
Enquiries into the incident remain ongoing.

What a weird choice of choc…
If you’re going to steal chocolate, at least steal Whittakers, the best choc in the world!

Lindt follows as a close second, but those are wafer thin, but easier to jam in one’s underage teen’s pockets of puff jacket..!
Goes to show that IF price caps are not instituted or prices reduced on food, we will see more of this.
