Treasury reveals $5 billion offshore bill to meet NZ’s 2030 climate target

Climate funding

Meeting New Zealand’s 2030 Paris target could cost up to $5 billion in offshore carbon credits, Treasury says.

The money would pay other countries to cut their emissions. Prime Minister Christopher Luxon ruled the spending out.

“We ain’t shutting down farms, and we certainly aren’t sending billions of dollars offshore,” he said. The previous Labour government set the target, and Greens minister James Shaw raised it to a 50% emissions cut.

Deputy Prime Minister David Seymour says Paris must change, or New Zealand should leave, a move backed by NZ First. Read more at NZ Herald, RNZ and Interest.co.nz.

    • Are they going to remove NZ from the Paris Climate accord? They are both in government at the moment participating in this system

    • I would vote for any party that distances itself from the Red/Blue uniparty.
Winston has done the 180 so many times, supporting opportunistically either National or Labour just to be in Parliament.
ACT at least has never supported Labour, but as said, National and Labour are the NZ uniparty, otherwise National would have cleaned up the covid crimes (and others, like the treasury).

      • While they have a web page as a policy paper, I have looked at the party structure (there is none) and the individuals who are the party at this stage are not publicly visible. It looks to me that the oroginal NZLoyal party was dissolved because of party politics between the handful of NZLoyal core members. This has devolved into nasty infighting and can as it stands at this stage not be trusted to be of any relevance. IMO a real tragedy because many ppl were really optimistic.
As long as there is no real public display of a functioning platform, this brilliant looking party policy has to wait for having a viable vehicle.

        • Kelvyn Alp, Lisa, and John are getting ready to make a major announcement.
The NZ Loyal Party is viable, and relevant with their policies as they apply to downtrodden Kiwis.
The NZ Loyal Party is also gaining membership, donations, and ideas.
There are other former party members trifling about copyright, policies, etc. and the former initial party founder (a lawyer and MSM figure…) tried to shut the party down for no apparent reason, other than the policies were a threat to the Uni-Party and the Old Boy / Old Girl Networks, and NOT complying with the WEF / WHO Zionist policies and mandates!
The Uni-Party Government DOES NOT WANT THE NEW ZEALAND LOYAL PARTY IN POWER, AS THEY ARE CALLING FOR COVID ACCOUNTABILITY, RE-VAMPING THE TAX SYSTEM, IMPLEMENTING A FULL CONSTITUTION THAT GUARANTEES RIGHTS, AND ALLOWING US TO RIGHTFULLY OWN FIREARMS FOR SELF DEFENCE ONCE AGAIN!

  1. Environmental responsibility is not acheived with a trading system for carbon.

Just another market that can be manipulated.

  2. This Paris accord is nothing more than laundering money. Money needed for infrastructure and to pay down debt. Winston Peters and David, Seymour are the only two party leaders talking sense.

What exactly is the Paris accord going to spend that money on? Hotels and meetings. More policies to rip us off? Give the Paris accord the unlubricated middle finger today.

A vote for the Labour party is a vote for the Greens and Maori party.

A vote for Hipkins is a vote for capital gains tax. Oh and you think that won’t affect you personally because you rent? That is an overhead renters will pay to the landlord.

Just look at all the corruption that has been stomped out so far.

    All local Councils abolished.

Unelected Maori votes canceled in local councils.

    Wasteful spending gone.

Still waiting for the crimes committed by Mr hold you down Hipkins. I bet your ex wife has a few stories to tell us.

I think of a time when New Zealand was a sensible and prosperous nation for all people to enjoy. It was safe to walk on the streets, people had employment, people had money. People had options. We were a proud nation and we had the right to be proud of our accomplishments.

Today, people are struggling to make ends meet. All these nonsense policies need to stop !

Maori, you ain’t special. You are equal. You have the same rights I have. You dont have special privileges. New Zealand must return to the actual words in the treaty and not some smart-alec shitwit who engineered apartheid in, 1974. This redistribution of extreme sums of money to pay for Maori leaders lifestyle must end.

The Green party closed down the oil refinery and destroyed the infrastructure and our independence with it.

Another lazy group that needs a kick up the arse is feminist woman. You are a hate group. Your achievements include the destruction of the family unit, ill gotten wealth and land, reliance on the taxpayers and destruction of fathers, parental rights., a birthrate far below replacement. The new generation of women are now struggling to find a worthwhile man. We men are nolonger interested being trapped. Fair laws are a must or no stable rich family for you. You can work, struggle and go without the lifestyle we men used to willingly provide. The risk now is beyond acceptable.

The soft police complaints authority is a complete shambles. It is not delivering justice. The unbalanced attitude towards true victims of police abuse must be addressed. It is a dysfunctional, corrupt private club who treats victims of police criminal activity. like it OK to delay or completely ignore their complaints is an acceptable outcome.

If we fail to cut out the crap, we will fail our children’s needs to growup in a functional society.

Praise be this online newspaper and the peole who dare to stand up to parliamentary members, officials and hold them accountable for their actions.

    • David Seymour and Winston Peters are in a coalition government involved with carbon trading at present.

Why didn’t they both have removal of carbon trading in their coalition agreements 2.5 years ago?

      • Once in the church parliament, all parties become puppets/actors for the unconstitutional New Zealand Company parliament (military church order).

  3. Carbon SCAM tax. Real name sleazy CORRUPT corporate snake tax. Ask any of these fraudulent fkers what the sneaky little embellished word “carbon” is actually referring to…. OH! The sneakily titled wording “carbon” actually means carbon dioxide…. SO IT’S CARBON DIOXIDE TAX. A natural automatically ecosystem-regulated pinprick of molecules (0.04%) that has flutcuated up and down in billions of natural cycles over billions of years – but hey, slithering modern-day corporate sh*theads on fraudulent band-wagon agendas prodding “special” buttons in their fraudulent “official establishment” office palaces tell you that you “must” pay a slippery slippery horseh*t tax on their designated as “special” bunch of fkn molecules..

  4. The emission trading scheme is pure fraud.

I’d like to see what the money is being spent on. Please publish accounts.
