US President Donald Trump has signalled he is considering aggressive options against Iran, including seizing its main oil export hub and launching a special forces raid to capture enriched uranium, even as he claims negotiations with Tehran are progressing.
Speaking to the Financial Times, Trump said he would favour taking control of Iran’s oil resources, stating, “To be honest with you, my favourite thing is to take the oil in Iran,” and adding that US forces could “very easily” capture Kharg Island, the country’s key export terminal.
Reports from the Wall Street Journal indicate Trump is also open to a targeted operation to “extract” around 450 kilograms of enriched uranium from Iranian nuclear facilities. While floating these military options, he maintained that talks with Iran were going “extremely” well and insisted Tehran would ultimately comply with US demands.
The remarks come amid rising regional tensions, with reports of strikes on Iranian infrastructure and damage to a major facility in Kuwait, alongside surging global oil prices. Iran has reportedly strengthened defences around Kharg Island and warned it is prepared to respond to any US incursion, while its Revolutionary Guard has threatened retaliation against American and Israeli targets.
Despite this, Trump downplayed Iranian capabilities, saying, “I don’t think they have any defense,” while acknowledging that any seizure of territory would likely require a prolonged US presence.
Rave on, it wont make any difference…..
No doubt about it Trump is a genius.
Say what you like the world needs oil.
