Yemen’s Houthis have appealed to the United States to remain outside their escalating confrontation with Saudi Arabia, according to US President Donald Trump, as fighting intensifies around strategically important Red Sea shipping routes.
Speaking during a visit to Ireland, Trump said the Houthis had contacted Washington and made clear they did not want to fight US forces or see America enter the conflict. His comments follow major Houthi advances along Yemen’s western coast, including the reported capture of Mocha, Dhubab and Perim Island near the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.
Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman has reportedly urged Trump to authorise US strikes against the group, but Washington has so far resisted direct military action while continuing to provide Riyadh with intelligence and other non-combat assistance.
Footage released by Iran-backed Houthi rebels reportedly shows damaged and targeted Saudi-backed military vehicles.

The Houthis say their campaign is directed against Saudi Arabia and Saudi-backed Yemeni forces and insist they intend to protect general maritime traffic, while warning that foreign intervention could broaden the war. Meanwhile, Saudi air operations have intensified, with Houthi officials claiming 129 strikes across seven Yemeni provinces within 48 hours and promising retaliation as missile and drone attacks against Saudi targets continue.
