Trump signs law forcing release of Epstein files

U.S. President Donald Trump has signed legislation compelling the Justice Department to release its investigative files on Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump had previously argued that Democrats were pushing for disclosure to politically damage him, but announced the U-turn on Truth Social, claiming the release would instead expose Epstein’s links to prominent Democrats, including Bill Clinton.

Epstein, a convicted sex offender who faced new trafficking charges in 2019, is reported to have died in a Manhattan jail that same year, with officials ruling it a suicide amid persistent speculation about the influential figures connected to him.

Trump accused Democrats of weaponizing the case and insisted his administration had already provided tens of thousands of pages of documents to Congress.

His shift in stance paved the way for overwhelming bipartisan support in Congress, with the House voting 427–1 and the Senate passing the measure unanimously.

  1. It is all smoke and mirrors. The US Attorney General can still block the release of files to protect the so called national security of the US.
