European and Middle Eastern leaders have largely endorsed a new US-led peace plan for Gaza, unveiled by President Donald Trump alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
The 20-point proposal calls for an immediate end to fighting, the release of 20 Israeli hostages and the remains of others in exchange for hundreds of detained Gazans, and the eventual establishment of a technocratic Palestinian authority overseen by an international body headed by Trump.
While regional powers such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Egypt, and the UAE hailed the plan as a step toward a two-state solution, Netanyahu reiterated his opposition to Palestinian statehood and said Israel would “finish the job” against Hamas if the group refused the deal.
European leaders including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, and Italy’s Giorgia Meloni also welcomed the plan, urging all parties to seize the opportunity to end the war.
The Palestinian Authority expressed support for the US’s “sincere and determined” efforts, pledging to work with Washington and regional partners to ensure aid, peace, and prisoner releases.
Hamas, however, signalled caution, saying it would study the plan “in good faith” but insisted that any agreement must safeguard Palestinian rights, guarantee a full Israeli withdrawal, and allow for the establishment of a Palestinian state on 1967 borders.
The plan rules out any role for Hamas in Gaza’s governance and stipulates that Israel will not annex the territory, with its forces withdrawing in stages.

Here’s a thought. There have been two images of live hostages in the last weeks and on both occasions looking like the best fed people in Gaza. No Images of Hamas individuals and now were led to believe there a load of bodies stored somewhere amongst the rubble ready to give back. We take Israel/ USA word that Hamas is still active(when did they last report rocket fire?) This hollow gesture of halting hostilities relies on this assumption that Hamas not Israel/USA is in charge of these ‘hostages’…….showing how willing they are for peace but as we’ll see at the deadline, when Hamas doesn’t stump up with hostages they don’t have Israel/USA will have license to ‘finish the job’.
