The University of Auckland has been ordered to pay scientist Siouxsie Wiles $205,059.94 in legal costs following a 2023 Employment Court case where the court found the university failed to protect her from harassment during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Although her claims about academic freedom and Te Tiriti breaches were not upheld, Judge Joanna Holden ruled Wiles was effectively the successful party in the case.
The payout includes $180,582.30 in costs and $24,477.64 in disbursements after the university initially offered just $65,000 and even sought to claim costs from Wiles.
Give her 10 million, on condition she leaves the country and never returns.
