Wayne Brown sworn in, calls for greater respect from government

Wayne Brown news

Auckland Mayor Wayne Brown and the city’s 19 councillors were officially sworn in during a lively ceremony at the Town Hall on Friday, featuring music from Earth, Wind & Fire.

In his speech, Brown pledged to improve Auckland’s transport system, push for a long-sought city deal with central government, and secure more funding for the country’s largest city, which he said deserves greater respect and recognition.

Reflecting on the devastating 2023 floods, he admitted the city was unprepared but said lessons had been learned. The evening concluded with performances from local cultural groups and a rendition of the national anthem.
