‘What is a Woman?’ petition tabled in parliament

The petition was signed by more than 23,500 people was formally tabled in the New Zealand Parliament Tuesday.

The petition was received two weeks ago by Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters and New Zealand First MP Tanya Unkovich, and calls for the legal definition of a woman to be enshrined as “an adult human female” in all of New Zealand’s laws, public policies, and regulations.

The petition, organised by the advocacy group Family First, proposes that legislation should clearly define “sex” as the biological sex at birth—male or female. It further suggests that the terms “female” and “male” should refer to individuals whose biological reproductive systems are developed to produce ova and sperm, respectively. The proposed definitions would extend to other terms such as “woman,” “girl,” “man,” “boy,” “mother,” and “father,” aiming to establish legal clarity around gender-based language.

The petition argues that such definitions are essential for protecting the health, safety, and privacy of individuals in various contexts, including schools, sports, prisons, domestic violence centers, and other spaces where biological distinctions are relevant. It also emphasises the importance of maintaining gender-specific accommodations without them being considered inherently unequal.

Proponents of the petition believe that without clear definitions, it becomes challenging to address specific issues affecting women, such as gender-based violence, the gender pay gap, and women’s health concerns. In a press release earlier this month Family First said it was disappointed that a law is now required to affirm what was once considered straightforward, attributing the need for this petition to society’s detachment from truth.

The petition’s tabling in Parliament marks the beginning of what is expected to be a heated debate over gender definitions in New Zealand, with significant implications for future legislation and public policy.

  1. “expected to be a heated debate over gender definitions” – what’s to debate? Biological scientific fact vs an anti-science mental disorder where one can just pretend to be whatever they fancy. How did a so-called modern civilization get to this point? must be satanic globalisation agenda.

  2. What is generally considered to be a man is a man – which has a penis
Or a woman – which has a vagina
Unless it is an ‘it’ – which has a penis and a vagina
Genitalia of both man and woman
    It’s not rocket science

  3. I think there are 3 genders:
Male – people with XY chromosomes
Female – people with XX chromosomes
Other – people who disagree with the above.

  4. The fact this is even needed tells you everything you need to know about the state of politics and political mainstream party’s, in New Zealand today.

    Vote for clowns, get………

    • Labour greens and maori have entrenched this bs throughout NZ. National ACT and NZFirst should stop the lunacy. NZ have always been accepting. However, now the trans / woke lunacy are trying to remove women’s rights. By calling men women. This is evil. And to the woman that think you are inclusive and kind, you have actually excluded womens rights.

  5. As we should be flying to the stars and exploring the Galaxy, hundreds of thousands of years after we were living in caves, because of a lunatic fringe in our society we are made to discuss this. The people who push this nonsense are a nuisance to humanity.

  6. This is incredible patriarchy. Where is the debate about men??? What is a man?
Having said this, there is the big question about someone who has made a gender transition and acquired, for example, a uterus and connecting fixtures, which is: where do they come from? Surely not Bunnings or Repco.
