WorkSafe has laid a charge under the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015 following the death of a Chinese national who fell from a scissor lift while working at an Auckland aluminium company’s North Shore warehouse last December.
The man was in the country on a work visa. At the time of the accident he was loading aluminium beams into racking more than two metres above the ground when he fell, later dying in hospital from his injuries.
After an extensive investigation, WorkSafe filed a charge but has not identified the defendant, as the case is awaiting its first appearance in the North Shore District Court.
The regulator said a person conducting a business or undertaking failed to ensure worker safety so far as was reasonably practicable, exposing workers to the risk of serious injury or death.
