US President Donald Trump personally welcomed Chinese President Xi Jinping to Joint Base Andrews with a military flyover, honour guard and 100-foot red carpet, opening a three-day Washington summit focused on trade, artificial intelligence, Taiwan and the Iran war.
Xi, making his first visit to Washington since 2015, arrived with his wife Peng Liyuan and senior Chinese officials before travelling to the capital for closed-door talks and a state dinner. The visit coincides with an agreement to extend the US-China trade truce until January, while both sides explore a broader economic deal involving tariffs, rare earth minerals and agricultural trade.
Xi said China and the US should be “partners rather than rivals” and argued that their respective national ambitions could coexist, while the elaborate reception underscored the significance the Trump administration is placing on the summit.

Dependency in business always makes me nervous. Each country must take steps to ensure continuity of supply. Home grown or sourced resources from your own country is best. Today the ideology is to use other countries resources and keep your resources for later.
That said, the west makes more money from medical insurance, legal action, taxes, fees, levies, anything but producing goods. Taxes or whatever the name you call them make each nation uncompetitive.
There was a day when good service and reliable goods were at an affordable price was key. Extreme compliance, regulation across all industries has made products and services more expensive. Administration cost is more than significant.
China has less of that and yet thier products are reaching that of top European brands.
Quality Assurance and Quality Control are much improved in China when compared to just 10 years ago.
Innovation and patents are expanding exponentially.
Beijing, Shanghai, and many major cities now operate in the 2050 realm, 24 years ahead of most major Western nations and their cities.
BUT-
The price that the residents are paying in China is suffering under the :15 Minute Cityscape, Social Credit, extreme surveillance w/ facial recognition, and pre-crime thought monitoring via ‘suspicious actions’.
Truly something right out of a Tom Cruise movie, or Blade Runner 2060, with a dash of classics like ‘1984’ ‘The Omega Man’, all with a pinch of ‘The Andromeda Strain’ and ‘Outbreak’.
