An unwanted future is taking shape as biotechnology experimentation proliferates

The media needs to cover new research findings

Regular readers will be aware that for the last five years we have been warning of serious risks associated with biotechnology experimentation. We have documented risks being generated in the agricultural sector, the public health arena and the defence research establishment associated with the introduction of genetically modified components. We have made it a policy to reference our concerns to research papers published in scientific journals. This article will examine the possible extent of these risks and the likely effects for individual, national and geopolitical affairs.

Last week there were newspaper reports published in NZ when Billy TK was hospitalised after suffering a heart attack labelling him a Covid conspiracist. Far from offering appropriate support and understanding, these reports were remarkable for the vehemence of the attacks on Billy TK because he spoke out during the pandemic about the dangers of mRNA vaccination. Apparently, the media has failed to make any effort to update its rushed compliance with government pandemic policy. As we have been reporting, published research in reputable journals has reversed many of the hasty opinions formed during the pandemic under a blanket of fear and a barrage of misinformed publicity. It should now be clear there are elevated risks of cancer, heart disease, immune deficiency, neurological disease and mental illness associated with mRNA vaccination. This evidence includes massive retrospective studies of the subsequent health care utilisation records of whole populations (see here for example).

It is clear that there is a social media and mainstream media consensus concerning the supposed value of gene based medicine. It is very hard to go against this consensus because it is so entrenched in the public psyche. Its roots go back to the introduction of so called miracle medical cures for diseases like smallpox, tuberculosis and polio that did not actually involve gene therapy. The deceptively rosy aura surrounding gene medicine is continually bolstered by public relations pronouncements promising imminent cures for diseases like cancer and other serious illnesses which never actually eventuate. In reality gene therapies represent a structural break with past medical approaches and they carry novel serious risks. Despite the 75 years that have elapsed since the discovery of DNA, gene therapies remain plagued by adverse effects and the absence of any genuine success. Nor are the risks confined to medical biotechnology, as we have reported they extend to the replacement of traditional food ingredients, additives and processing aids with gene altered components. The press and the ill-informed social consensus have failed to take account of the novelty and the risks to the health of society at large.

Biotechnology defence programs are creating global risks

Given the overwhelming suspicion and consensus that Covid itself escaped from a lab where it had been artificially created, it is remarkable that foolhardy genetic gain of function experiments are continuing in nations around the globe under biosafety protocols that are far from safe, nor likely to ever be so. A report published on July 17 by Paul D Thacker on Substack highlights safety concerns and deficiencies at the US NIH Rocky Mountain Laboratory (RML), a virology research lab which studies the world’s most lethal pathogens—such as Ebola, the highly infectious Coxiella Burnetii (an intracellular bacterium that causes Q fever), Tularemia (a tick borne disease known as rabbit fever) and Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever. RML operates under the highest Biosafety Level 4 (BSL-4), but a whistleblower has revealed that RML has no viable control plan if a researcher is accidentally exposed to something, as happened last November when a monkey infected with Crimean-Congo Hemorrhagic Fever Virus (CCHFV) bit a worker. The resulting confusion revealed the extreme inadequacies of RML safety protocols, reminiscent of the haphazard and wholly ineffective response when Covid escaped from the Wuhan Virology Lab after workers suffered Covid infections as early as November 2019 which rapidly spread throughout the city and beyond to the world.

The whistleblower reported that the administration at RML wants workers to continue their work at level 4 “no matter the cost, because they think it’s the most important work on the planet—that must be done, no matter what it takes.”

Research at RML is considered to be of the highest priority because it is part of the US effort to develop bioweapon defence programs. The stated aim is ‘Countermeasure Development’. The urgency and fear arises because no genuinely effective and foolproof countermeasures have been discovered to date. Scientists at RML study high-consequence and maximum-containment pathogens in an effort to develop diagnostics, vaccines, and therapeutics. In fact, the line between bioweapon development and countermeasures is a very fine one indeed. In order to test supposed countermeasures, researchers must first produce examples of bioweapons themselves. Therefore safety inadequacies are tantamount to a ticking time bomb for global disaster. It doesn’t stop at RML, multiple countries and labs around the world are doing similar research often in even more insecure facilities. The resulting proliferation of risk resembles the spread of a global disease. What could possibly go wrong?

Biotechnology accidents can devastate society

If in fact new biological threats escape into wider populations, by the ready mobility of genetic material they will not be able to be recalled, contained or remediated. As happened with Covid, they could spread without limit and their effects will be be long lasting. Moreover, if present unsafe genetic experimentation continues, it is not a matter of ‘if’ but ‘when’. It is quite possible, if not likely, that the resulting ‘pandemic’ will be far more serious and deadly than Covid.

When this happens, we can imagine that cities will be the least safe environments in which to live. Cities are natural breeding grounds for pollution, surveillance, contagion and enforcement. Panicked thinking will drive events. Reliance on faulty WHO and government responses cemented by historical misunderstandings dating from the Covid era could rapidly take over. In the atmosphere of fear that a new pandemic will generate, whole populations could be manipulated and coerced into compliance with hurried medical responses like the mRNA vaccines. These had little or no success but almost certainly compounded damage to health. 

Given research on vaccine delivery systems currently taking place, measures taken during a future pandemic may include air borne interventions, changes to water systems or additions to the food chain that will affect the whole population whether they choose to participate or not. The whole cycle of mandates and restrictions could reappear overnight without serious consideration of the adverse consequences. These should be apparent but only if the government, the media and the medical establishment update their analysis of Covid pandemic research findings. Unfortunately the approving consensus surrounding biotechnology has elevated it to the status of a proto-religion which has been accorded an unquestioned and untouchable status in the minds of many. The articles attacking Billy TK at a time when sympathy and support is called for, illustrate how deeply false prejudice and historical government misunderstandings remain stored in the national psyche.

Events may acquire the characteristics of global conflict

The Covid pandemic has ushered in an era of concern and dis-ease which is showing no signs of wholly dissipating. Life has not returned to a genuine sense of normality. There has been a proliferation of extreme opinions and an increased polarisation of extreme ideas. These can be misguided, unscientific or irrational without supporting evidence, along with calls to impose these on other individuals and groups. This is reminiscent of the confusion and instability that arose in the 1930s. Potentially a war is on the horizon, but not a war like previous wars. Each successive wave of global conflict reveals new weapons that displace those of previous conflicts. Whether biotechnology will feature in any future conflict is unknown, but seems increasingly likely. 

Therefore it is a matter of the greatest urgency to update our understanding of the fundamentals of life. Gene modifications tinker with the foundations of life and pose dangers of the highest order. Reading between the lines, there are some faint signs of growing misgivings and a realisation of the limitations of our current simplistic genetic paradigm. A recent interview with the Nobel Prize winning geneticist and discoverer of CRISPR gene editing, Jennifer Doudna, reveals seeds of discontent with the claims of large A.I. companies and Big Pharma that miracle cures are just around the corner. In fact, as we have reported, the most recent discoveries point to fundamental limitations to simple interpretations of genetic systems. The sooner these implications filter into government policy, the better. Commenting on the Doudna interview, prominent biosafety expert Richard H Ebright commented :

“Doudna is correct. Hype about A.I. ‘solving biology’ or ‘revolutionising drug discovery’ is scientifically illiterate and scientifically unsound nonsense. Companies founded on such hype will fail. Investments based on such hype will tank.” 

Despite the hope that the biotechnology ‘safe and effective’ bubble may burst (see here for growing moves by the US justice system to bring those involved with Covid origins to account), concerns like Ebright’s are not enough, risky biotechnology experimentation has to cease and the public must be properly informed of the risks so that they can make the correct ballot box decisions. The media carries the burden of responsibility to get real about reputable research pointing to serious adverse health risks.
