Watch: Israeli UFC hopeful Oron Kahlon calls Afghan opponent Javid Basharat ‘a terrorist’ during testy exchange at weigh-in

0

Fight fans have hit out at an ugly moment during a UFC weigh-in on Monday evening after Oron Kahlon, who missed weight for his fight, appeared to refer to Afghan opponent Javid Basharat as a ‘terrorist’ during a heated staredown.

The pair of UFC prospects are hoping to catch the eye of Dana White ahead of Tuesday’s ‘Contender Series’ match-up between the two bantamweights as part of the company’s drive to identify new talent capable of competing on the global stage – but Kahlon may have gone one step too far after he appeared to be overheard referring to Basharat as a ‘terrorist’.

Footage of the dramatic moment was captured on social media and has prompted widespread scorn towards Kahlon, who is of Israeli descent. The slur was noted when the two were posing for photographs alongside UFC official Sean Shelby – and is even more remarkable given that it was Kahlon who missed weight for their fight.

To his credit, Basharat opted to not escalate the situation further after opting not to shake Kahlon’s hand and chose instead to simply point at Kahlon and address the situation later on social media.

“This p*ssy wanted a way out by missing weight by 3 pounds,” wrote Basharat on his Instagram profile along with footage of the weigh-in.

“I told him I’m gonna still whoop his arse, he then called me a terrorist wanted a reaction again he wanted a way out. Unlucky for him I ain’t going nowhere!

“I’m waiting to see him tomorrow. Booooo [Oron Kahlon] guys, let him have it.”

“Disgusting,” wrote MMA reporter Shaun Al-Shatti in response to the footage, which was also noted by his colleague Luke Thomas as being “utterly repulsive”.

“No place for that in this sport,” added another fan, while a third forecast that this clip may well be the entirely of Kahlon’s 15 minutes of fame in the UFC.

“Kahlon just ruining his MMA Career in one day,” they wrote.

The pre-fight histrionics between the two warring bantamweights seems to have overshadowed what was expected to be a thrilling encounter between the two undefeated prospects – with Kahlon a perfect 12-0 in his career thus far, while Basharat has posted a 10-0 record to date.

Time will tell how the UFC brass react to the latest controversial moment at a weigh-in hosted by them but as some fans are speculating, Oron Kahlon’s time at MMA’s top table may now be very temporary.

‘Traitor & spy’: Muslim Indian cricketer targeted with ‘disgusting’ abuse after Pakistan rout bitter rivals at World Cup

0

A host of Indian cricket stars have leapt to the defense of pace bowler Mohammad Shami after he received a litany of “shocking” online abuse after his team suffered a dismal defeat to rivals Pakistan on Sunday.

Pakistan claimed a surprise win on Sunday in their T20 World Cup group-stage match in Dubai as they routed India by 10 wickets.

For the Indian team, who lost to their great rivals for the first time in a World Cup match, the occasion was further souredshortly afterwards when Shami, who is the only Muslim player in the Indian team, was targeted for repeated online harassment.

Shami turned in a below-par performance, bowling 0 for 43 from 3.5 overs and giving up seven boundaries during an unimpressive display.

The vitriol from some sections of the Indian fanbase was evident, as Shami’s Instagram profile was inundated with accusations of him being a “traitor” and calls for him to be dropped from the team.

The rancor, which appears to be grounded by ongoing historical tensions between the two nations as much as by Shami’s performance, prompted a host of Indian cricket’s biggest names – as well as some high profile media figures – to jump to his defense online.

“What is happening to Mohammed Shami is totally unacceptable. If the team can’t even stand up for their own teammate it is shameful. Instead of taking a knee it may help if they grew a spine,” said Indian television personality Sumanth Raman.

“Really heartening to see India take the knee in support of BLM and against racism. The vile targeting of Mohammed Shami for India’s T20 loss is pure bigotry and racism,” added Sayeeda Warsi, a peer of the UK’s House of Lords.

“Really upsetting & disgusting Islamophobia & hate speech online against Mohammed Shami after India lost out to Pakistan in a cricket match. Calling him a Pakistani agent & spy. Sickening,” wrote another media personality, Saima Mohsin.

“Mohammed Shami has been a stellar performer for India for eight years, playing a significant role in many a victory. He can’t be defined by one performance. My best wishes are always with him. I urge fans & followers of the game to support Shami and the Indian team,” added Indian cricket icon VVS Laxman.

Virender Sehwag also waded in: “The online attack on Mohammad Shami is shocking and we stand by him. He is a champion and Anyone who wears the India cap has India in their hearts far more than any online mob. With you Shami.”

There have been some suggestions that part of the maelstrom may be linked to the Indian team’s decision to kneel on behalf of the ‘Black Lives Matter’ movement – but this is something which Omar Abdullah, formerly the chief minister in the Muslim-majority region of Kashmir also addressed.

“Team India your BLM knee-taking counts for nothing if you can’t stand up for your teammate who is being horribly abused and trolled on social media,” he said.

Both India and Pakistan have a troubled history, with several fracas developing between the Hindu-majority India and Muslim-majority Pakistan, with three wars taking place since their independence in 1947 – with cricket matches between the two nations often inflaming tensions.

Celebratory gunfire was noted in Pakistani cities of Islamabad and Karachi following the victory against India, while there were also reports of violence in Punjab and in Bangladesh, where local media reported that two Pakistan cricket fans were violently attacked by Indian supporters.

Censor the internet or face more riots? Facebook ‘whistleblower’ tells lawmakers exactly what they want to hear

0

Facebook ‘whistleblower’ Frances Haugen is calling for censorship again, after a fresh round of reports implicated the firm in failing to crack down on supposed “misinformation.” Still think this is organic?

Haugen appeared before the UK’s parliament on Monday in a bid to convince lawmakers that Facebook needs more regulation. In her testimony to a committee working on a proposed Online Safety Bill, Haugen said that “horrific” riots and genocides will happen around the world if Facebook is allowed to continue spreading “polarizing” content – namely from the right wing.

Censor the internet news

Comparing Uncle Todd’s QAnon posting to the mass extinction of human life in Ethiopia or Myanmar may seem wacky, and on the surface resembles the moral panic of the 1980s, when the ‘Washington Wives’ thought listening to Judas Priest turned children into Satan-worshipping killers. But Haugen is not a lone Helen Lovejoy type demanding that “somebody think of the children.” She’s a billionaire-backed, media-supported censorship advocate who speaks for the worst enemies of free expression.

Her operation is a slick one. Haugen first grabbed attention by claiming that Facebook’s higher-ups know how harmful Instagram is to underage users (“somebody think of the children”), and within hours of going public had pivoted to pleading with Congress in Washington to exercise more control over political speech on Facebook “for the common good.”

In the days and hours before Haugen spoke in London, a slew of fresh articles appeared in sympathetic media outlets to bolster her case. Facebook, according to these articles, refused to listen to the demands of staff and remove right-wing news sources such as Breitbart and Charlie Kirk from its ‘News Tab.’ Furthermore, documents leaked by Haugen revealed that the company refused to take down contentious posts by right-wing figures, preferring instead to appear neutral, even if this meant allowing certain politically influential accounts to evade censorship.

Somehow, this is presented as a bad thing.

A steady stream of reports – all based on Haugen’s documents – hammered Facebook for allowing users to become “radicalized” by ‘QAnon’ conspiracy theories, blamed the pro-Trump Capitol Hill riot on the company’s apparently lax “extremism” enforcement and even on its failure to censor Trump himself back when he announced his campaign in 2015. Facebook staff, the documents state, wanted the censorship to kick in the moment then-candidate Trump rode down the escalator at Trump Tower.

The end goal here is obvious. Haugen wants challenges to the liberal status quo quashed online, be they from Uncle Todd or Donald Trump. She doesn’t want to break up Facebook, she said earlier this month. Instead she wants more “moderation” and less “misinformation.”

Her efforts thus far have focused on the US but, in her testimony on Monday, she made it clear that she wants global action. Hateful content, she argued, gets clicks worldwide, and Facebook’s own artificial intelligence and fact checkers are only equipped to tackle posts in American English. British English is “sufficiently different,” she claimed, that Facebook’s rules may be “under-enforced” in the UK. Moreover, she reiterated her claims that no matter in what country, Facebook’s boosting of content based on how many users interact with it creates an environment in which easily-clickable “anger and hate is the easiest way to grow on Facebook.”

Haugen is a censorship lobbyist on a world tour. After her appearance in Britain’s Parliament, she’s scheduled to meet with politicians in Brussels, Paris and Berlin, and to speak at an industry conference in Lisbon. And she’s playing to a friendly audience.

Haugen receives financial support from French-American billionaire Pierre Omidyar, who has previously bankrolled activist groups and NGOs in countries targeted for regime change by Washington, and whose organization, Luminate, actively seeks to work against the governments of Russia and China, and against “populist” leaders in the West.

During her time in Facebook’s Threat Intelligence unit, Haugen’s former colleagues included CIA, NSA, and Pentagon spooks. Details of this experience are nowhere to be found on her resumé, however, with her entire pre-whistleblowing web presence deleted before she went public and immediately earned a verified Twitter account. Nevertheless, her time in Facebook’s own intelligence agency gave Haugen the confidence to tell US Senators that China and Iran used Facebook to conduct “espionage,” and that she had “strong national security concerns about how Facebook operates today.”

Haugen’s fishy history and connections with the intelligence community have been examined in depth by RT and others already, and make for interesting reading. In short, with an army of Democratic and pro-censorship operatives working behind the scenes, Haugen has thus far excelled at telling lawmakers exactly what they want to hear.

Her “concerns” about national security were met with nods of approval from the more hawkish members of Congress, her condemnation of Facebook’s supposed mishandling of the Capitol Hill riot earned her praise from a Democrat-run commission set up to ‘investigate’ the pro-Trump fracas, and her demands for censorship pleased the Biden administration, which has made no secret of its desire to regulate online speech.

Whatever impact Haugen’s testimony has on British lawmakers will be apparent once the Online Harms Bill is rolled out. Prime Minister Boris Johnson has vowed to bring the bill to a vote “before Christmas,” spurred on by the shocking murder of Conservative MP Sir David Amess, whose killer may or may not have been radicalized online.

Should Parliament take Haugen’s testimony into account when the final version of the bill is voted on, they will have been swayed by a whistleblower like no other, one funded and coached by experienced spin doctors and feted by every organ of the establishment. It’s manufactured dissent, and pretty soon it’ll determine what you can and cannot say online.

Bitcoin Futures ETF by ProShares smashes first day record

0

The first-ever Bitcoin Futures ETF by ProShares made its debut in the US on Tuesday on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) after months of speculations.

The numbers and volumes that the $BITO ETF did on the first day surpassed many people’s expectations and created many new records. Let’s take a look at some of the mind-boggling numbers that $BITO put up on the first day of trade. Each $BITO share was priced at $40.

Over $1 Billion in Trading Volume

The ProShares $BITO registered a trading volume of near $1 billion, making it the most successful ETF on debut. This goes on to prove what crypto proponents have been claiming all along, a US-based ETF would easily surpass the combined total of the rest of the Bitcoin ETFs trading around the world.

The first-ever Bitcoin ETF in Canada took weeks to reach $1 billion dollars in trading volume. This is primarily because the US ETF market is at least 7X larger than the rest of the world. Eric Balchunas, the prominent Bloomberg ETF analyst deemed the opening day of ProShares as the second-highest opening in the ETF market ever. He said,

“If we don’t exclude ETFs where their Day One volume was literally one pre-planned giant investor or BYOA (not natural), it still ranks #2 overall. Here’s that list. The reason some of these shouldn’t be included IMO is they don’t really represent grassroots interest.”

ProShares Bitcoin ETF Registered $550 Million in Asset Inflow

Apart from record trading volume on the first day which saw the $BITO ETF take the second spot in the ETF history, ProShares also revealed a massive $550 million in inflows on the first day. ProShares started with $20 million in seed fund and ended the day with $570 million in assets.

The opening day not only proved to be a great success for the first-ever Bitcoin ETF but also set a benchmark that could become quite difficult to get past. On the other Bitcoin ($BTC) price also flirted near ATHs as it closed the highest daily candle in history at $64,453 just about $400 short from ATH.

Watch: New kid on the block: Clive Palmer’s United Australia Party now the biggest in Australia

0

Australian billionaire Clive Palmer has given a press conference today in which he announced that the United Australia Party (UAP) he founded has now become the undisputed largest party in Australia by membership numbers.

As of today, the party has just over 70,500 members. UAP is an ‘Australian First’ party, with a policy of ‘free choice’ regarding COVID-19 vaccinations. According to Palmer UAP is gaining new members at the rate of 500 a day, which was an ‘unprecendented situation.’

‘A lot of these people are former members of the Liberal Party, the Labour Party and the Greens, and they’re realising Australia needs a new direction…Australians are just sick of politicians lying to them.’

With its eye on the next Federal Election, UAP had already garnered 1000 nominations for House of Representatives seats and 500 nominations for Senate seats. The party would be standing candidates in each of the 150 seats in the States and in each Senate seat. Party polling was showing that they were going extremely well, especially in New South Wales and Victoria.

When asked why he thought there had been such a massive rise in support for UAP, Palmer said:

‘I think these are unprecedented times in Australia. I think the COVID politics, the lockdown in Melbourne, there’s been 240-odd days people being in lockdown, not being able to go out, the destruction of businesses, and certainly the response seems to have been over the top for the destruction its caused in the economy. There’s an increase of suicide deaths of 1500 people over the last year…there’s a 48% increase in the breakup of marriages and families, and so Australians think they we can do better.’

Speaking further, Palmer said:

‘We’ve got policies we think are important. The last Federal election we suggested Australia should move to nuclear power. We did that because its emissions free, and we can reach our emissions targets if we want to adopt nuclear power in this country…We want to see a party that sticks up for Australians and the national interests. We’ll have exciting policies coming out before the election, so Australians will know what we stand for.’

‘We’ve got around 20,000 of our members who’ve been double-jabbed and they’re very angry. They’ve been double-jabbed with the vaccine and their freedom has been curtailed. They thought, mistakenly, that when they got the vaccine they could visit friends for lunch, the could go out somewhere, but they’ve been locked up for months in Victoria and Sydney, and they’re angry at the lies they’ve been told by politicians.’

‘Many of the press have reported that this is an anti-vax party, but we’re not. We’re for vaccines, but vaccines that have gone through the tried and tested system of approval in Australia, which normally takes 7 to 8 years, so that we know what the effects will be on the community and there’s long-term/short-term safety data, and there’s safety data for pregnant women and for children. But unfortunately, all that’s been set aside in a state of fear, so we need to look at rational government that doesn’t react to fear.’

When asked if had received the COVID vaccine, Palmer said that he had not because there isn’t any COVID in Queensland.

In response to a question from a reporter about a man in Gold Coast hospital in ICU as a result of COVID, Palmer replied, ‘there are 150,000 people in Australia this year that have died and you haven’t reported one of their deaths. The road toll in Queensland is bigger over a holiday period than the total deaths of COVID in Australia, but we don’t shut our economy down, we don’t bar people from working, we don’t divide Australians and say I’ll treat you differently because of your health status.’

‘There’s a whole idea to set up a precedent based on fear. And what’s the fear? And if you look at the total number of people who die every day from diseases, it’s a normal occurence in the circle of life. It’s not something that’s out of control at all.’

Mass outbreak of COVID-19 on Royal Navy ships with 100% vaccination rate confirmed – BBC

0

The BBC have confirmed an outbreak of COVID-19 has occurred on HMS Queen Elizabeth, the Royal Navy’s flagship aircraft carrier, which is currently on deployment in the Indian Ocean as part of a world tour.

According to the report, several other ships are said to be also affected. Around 100 cases are said to be active on the ship, which according to Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, are being ‘managed’.

Mass COVID outbreak on UK carrier news
HMS Prince of Wales and HMS Queen Elizabeth pictured at sea for the first time…Wednesday 19 May 2021 saw a historic moment in Britain’s carrier renaissance as HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales met at sea for the first time. With two 65,000 tonne carriers in operational service, Britain has a continuous carrier strike capability, with one vessel always ready to respond to global events at short notice.

Questions remain as to how and why so many sailors have become infected. According to James Heaphy, the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence, a 100% COVID vaccination rate was achieved for the Royal Navy’s carrier strike fleet in June 2021 (Citation: House of Commons Debate, 23 June 2021, c868).
