Non-stick frying pans have been for us for many years now.
With their teflon coatings they’ve revolutionised the way we cook. But they don’t come without risks – cooking on some types of teflon can cause disease, especially cancer.

It seems however, there’s a simple trick to endow your stainless steel model with non-stick qualities, and it all relates to the ‘Mercury Test.’
Popular home remedy YouTube channel ‘Blissfully Random’ explained the trick in a video which has attracted more the 3 million views since it was first uploaded two years ago.
According to Bliss, the trick requires no preparation, oiling, baking, coating or ‘special fumes’.
- Put the pan on the stove and turn it on maximum heat for a minute
- Too low of a temperature and it will stick, to high and it will burn
- Use one or two drops of water – when reaching the correct temperature the water does not evaporate with a hiss, but forms small dancing balls around the pan – very similar to mercury balls
