Manchester United have included highly rated 15-year-old forward JJ Gabriel in their senior squad for Friday’s pre-season friendly against Rosenborg, marking another major step in the youngster’s rapid rise through the club’s academy.
Gabriel, who swept the club’s Under-18 and Premier League youth honours last season despite beginning the campaign aged just 14, is part of Michael Carrick’s 25-man travelling squad and replaces striker Ethan Wheatley following last week’s defeat to Wrexham.
Although new signing Tynan Thompson has not been selected and injuries have sidelined Benjamin Sesko, Karl Darlow and Matthijs de Ligt, Gabriel now has the opportunity to make his first senior appearance for United before his 16th birthday in October.
