The All Blacks overcame a disjointed performance and a fierce Lions challenge to claim a 35-41 victory at Ellis Park, completing five wins from five against South African franchise sides.
The Lions stunned the visitors with two tries inside six minutes and stretched their advantage to 35-17 early in the second half, but New Zealand mounted a powerful comeback led by Rieko Ioane and Ethan Blackadder, who scored two tries apiece.
Emoni Narawa also crossed twice, including the match-sealing try at full time, while Beauden Barrett played an important creative role as the All Blacks found greater continuity from their replacements.
Despite costly errors, penalties and defensive lapses, New Zealand recovered from an 18-point deficit, took the lead after 61 minutes and finished strongly as their scrum gained the upper hand late in the contest.
