The All Whites broke a 14-year drought by scoring their first goal against Australia since 2010, but it wasn’t enough as they went down 3-1 in the second Soccer Ashes clash at Mt Smart Stadium.
Mohamed Toure netted a brace for the Socceroos, while teenage sensation Nestory Irankunda also found the net before Chris Wood gave the home crowd brief hope with a 57th-minute strike.
That joy was short-lived as Toure quickly restored Australia’s two-goal cushion, sealing the series 2-0 after their earlier 1-0 win in Canberra.
