Auckland FC crowned A-League champions

Auckland FC have secured the A-League championship in just their second season after defeating Sydney FC 1-0 in a sold-out grand final at Go Media Stadium, becoming the first New Zealand club to host and win the competition decider.

Cam Howieson scored the decisive second-half goal — his first for the club — in front of 28,374 fans, capping a remarkable comeback story after years outside the professional game. The tense contest remained scoreless at halftime before Auckland capitalised on a defensive deflection to break through, while celebrations were briefly marred by a flare thrown onto the pitch from the crowd.

The victory completed a dream campaign for coach Steve Corica’s side and sparked jubilant scenes among supporters who packed the stadium and surrounding streets ahead of kickoff.
