Australia tighten grip on third Ashes test after Head and Carey take charge

Australia have strengthened their control of the third Ashes Test in Adelaide, absorbing a brief England fightback before reasserting dominance on day three.

England showed resolve through a stubborn partnership between Ben Stokes and Jofra Archer, which trimmed the deficit and briefly unsettled the hosts, but lapses in the field — including a costly dropped catch — proved damaging.

Once the tourists were dismissed, Australia weathered early pressure before Travis Head and Alex Carey seized control in front of a packed home crowd.

Head remained unbeaten on a commanding century, while Carey added a fluent half-century to follow his first-innings ton, the pair sharing a decisive stand that pushed Australia’s lead beyond 350 runs.

With England hampered by injuries, limited bowling options and fading confidence, the match appears firmly tilted towards the hosts as they eye a decisive result over the final two days.
