Bangladesh have pulled off one of Test cricket’s great shocks, defeating Australia by nine wickets in Darwin to claim their first Test victory on Australian soil.
Set just 57 to win after dismissing the hosts for 284 on day four, Bangladesh comfortably completed the chase despite losing Tanzid Hasan for a duck, with Mominul Haque striking the winning boundary. Mehidy Hasan Miraz starred with four final-day wickets after contributing 65 with the bat, while Hasan Mahmud finished with nine wickets for the match.
Cameron Green’s determined 104 briefly kept Australia alive, but the hosts could not recover from their first-innings collapse for 198, after Bangladesh had amassed 426 in reply. The emphatic victory over the world’s top-ranked Test side ranks among Bangladesh’s greatest achievements since gaining Test status 26 years ago.
