Charles Gibbon, a prominent businessman and investor, has officially become a shareholder in the Highlanders.
Known for his early investment in the successful Australian software company WiseTech Global, Gibbon brings with him a wealth of experience in investment banking, private equity, and venture capital.
Although Gibbon’s career has taken him worldwide, his roots remain deeply embedded in Otago/Southland, the region where he was born and raised.
“The Highlanders are more than just a rugby team; they’re a symbol of their community’s spirit and resilience,” said Gibbon. “I believe in the potential of this region, and I’m excited to play a role in helping the Highlanders continue to grow and succeed.”
Chairman Peter Kearn highlighted Gibbon’s valuable business expertise and strong local connections. “We are thrilled to have someone with Charles’s business acumen and connection to Otago/Southland join the Highlanders ownership group. His long-standing ties to our region make him an ideal partner for our club. We’re confident that his insights and commitment will help take the Highlanders to new heights,” Kean stated.
The majority shareholders in the Highlanders remain Peter Kean and Shane Drummond. Other stakeholders include Gibbon, the Marc Ellis syndicate, the Chris Gallaher syndicate, and the provincial unions of Southland, North Otago, and Otago.
