Chelsea have agreed a club-record £117 million deal to sign England midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa, making the 23-year-old the most expensive English footballer in history.
Rogers is set to sign a six-year contract, with the option of an additional season, after completing a medical following England’s World Cup campaign. The transfer surpasses Chelsea’s previous record signing, Enzo Fernandez, and comes as new manager Xabi Alonso continues reshaping his squad.
Aston Villa are set to make a substantial profit on Rogers, who joined from Middlesbrough in 2024, while Middlesbrough will receive at least £20.4 million through a sell-on clause. Rogers leaves Villa after scoring 21 league goals, helping the club win last season’s Europa League, while Villa have already begun rebuilding their midfield with new signings following his departure.
