Chiefs beat Reds as controversial calls hurt Queensland’s finals push

The Queensland Reds’ hopes of hosting a Super Rugby Pacific qualifying final suffered a major setback after a 21-31 defeat to the Chiefs at Suncorp Stadium.

The Reds battled back late to close the gap to three points through youngster Treyvon Pritchard’s first Super Rugby try, but a costly late penalty and Wallace Sititi’s second try sealed victory for the Chiefs.

Queensland were left frustrated by several contentious officiating decisions throughout the match, including a disallowed try to Seru Uru and a Chiefs try overturned only after multiple knock-ons were spotted by the TMO.

Despite strong moments from Lachie Anderson, Joe Brial and Carter Gordon, the Reds slipped to fifth on the ladder and now face an uphill battle to secure a top-three finish and a home playoff.
