Everton forward Martin Sherif has received a £5,000 fine from the Football Association after admitting breaches of football betting regulations involving 61 wagers over a 15-month period.
The 20-year-old acknowledged allowing or facilitating bets on matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026, although he maintained that he had not personally placed them. Sherif accepted responsibility because the betting accounts were registered in his name and financed with his money.
An independent disciplinary panel recognised his genuine remorse when considering the case. Born in Liberia and capped at youth level by the Netherlands, Sherif entered Everton’s academy in 2019 before progressing to first-team training in early 2025.
He subsequently spent time on loan at Port Vale, where he scored twice in 17 League One appearances during a campaign that ended in relegation.
