Former All White midfielder Clayton Lewis appeared in a Sydney court for sentencing over his role in an A-League spot-fixing scandal, with his lawyers arguing he was exploited due to a gambling addiction and pressured by his captain, Ulises Davila, who allegedly orchestrated the scheme.
Lewis, who pleaded guilty alongside teammate Kearyn Baccus, is seeking a community release order without conviction, citing mental health struggles and public humiliation since his arrest.
The Crown, however, wants a community correction order and convictions to send a strong message to the football community. Sentencing has been adjourned until next week.
