Five apprentice jockeys have each received 10-day bans after failing to pull up in a chaotic five-furlong handicap at Windsor in the U.K., which was declared void following a false start.
The race descended into confusion when Master Zack, blindfolded in the stalls, reared up and broke free, running the course riderless before crashing into a plastic rail without serious injury.
Despite clear signals to stop, jockeys Tommie Jakes, Jack Doughty, Jack Dace, Taryn Langley and Alec Voikhansky rode on to complete the course.
Chief steward Richard Westropp said procedures were properly followed, and all five jockeys may appeal their bans.
