Former England captain and manager Kevin Keegan has died aged 75 after battling stage four cancer, his family has confirmed.
Widely regarded as one of England’s greatest football figures, Keegan enjoyed a glittering playing career with Scunthorpe United, Liverpool, Hamburg, Southampton and Newcastle United, winning three English league titles, the European Cup, two UEFA Cups, an FA Cup and consecutive Ballon d’Or awards in 1978 and 1979.
He also earned 63 England caps before moving into management, where he led Newcastle United’s celebrated “Entertainers” side, managed England at Euro 2000, and later took charge of Fulham and Manchester City. Tributes have poured in from clubs across England and Germany, with Newcastle describing him as one of the most influential figures in the club’s history and England announcing it will honour his legacy during its UEFA Nations League match against Spain in September.
