Former Sheffield United defender George Baldock has tragically passed away at the age of 31 after being found unresponsive in a swimming pool at his home in Greece.
Baldock, who recently joined Panathinaikos after a successful seven-year stint with the Blades, was discovered after his wife, unable to contact him, alerted the villa’s owner.
Emergency services found Baldock in the pool, where he had reportedly been for several hours.
Tributes have poured in from fellow footballers and clubs, with players like Harry Maguire posting heartfelt messages.
Baldock, affectionately known as “Furious George” for his aggressive style on the pitch, made over 200 appearances for Sheffield United, helping the team secure promotion to the Premier League twice.
He also represented Greece internationally despite being born in England. Clubs, including Panathinaikos and MK Dons, expressed their deep sorrow over the loss of the beloved footballer.
