Stuart Hogg has been stripped of his MBE after an official notice in The Gazette confirmed that the honour awarded for his services to rugby has been cancelled.

Hogg, who captained Scotland national rugby union team and earned 100 international caps, received the MBE in the 2024 New Year Honours but later pleaded guilty in 2024 to a domestic abuse charge involving his estranged wife, Gillian Hogg, resulting in a one-year community payback order.

The Gazette notice states that Charles III has directed that Hogg’s appointment as a Member of the Order of the British Empire be cancelled and his name removed from the official register.

The former Glasgow Warriors fullback, who also took part in three British & Irish Lions tours and now plays for Montpellier Hérault Rugby, had faced calls to lose the honour after admitting abusive behaviour.
