The French women’s boxing team has been excluded from the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool after missing the deadline to submit mandatory genetic sex test results, required under new rules introduced by World Boxing.
The French federation said testing is banned in France, so athletes travelled to a Leeds lab that failed to deliver results in time.
All five French fighters, along with seven others from Nigeria, Fiji, the Philippines and the Dominican Republic, were barred.
While federations blamed World Boxing for poor organisation, the governing body insisted national federations were responsible for testing and timelines.
