From feud to friendship: Djokovic and Kyrgios shine in doubles debut

Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios, once fierce rivals with little regard for each other off the court, made a stunning transformation into an entertaining doubles team at the Brisbane International.

The pair showcased their newfound camaraderie in front of an enthusiastic crowd, securing a 6-4, 6-7 (4-7), 10-8 victory over Alexander Erler and Andreas Mies.

Their celebratory chest-bump symbolised the remarkable bromance, which began thawing after Kyrgios supported Djokovic during his 2022 Australian deportation ordeal.

The match marked Kyrgios’ return to competitive tennis after an 18-month injury layoff, with the Australian star proving his resilience and trademark flair in his comeback.

The duo delighted fans with humor, skill, and vintage moments, including Djokovic’s precision lobs and Kyrgios’ signature tweener shot.

Despite concerns about Kyrgios’ physical fitness and the pairing of their contrasting personalities, they gelled effortlessly, laughing and joking throughout the match.

Djokovic praised Kyrgios for making the experience a pleasure, while Kyrgios expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete again, promising more entertaining performances in the future.
