Erling Haaland became the fastest player to reach 50 Champions League goals, scoring in his 49th appearance as Manchester City overcame a stubborn Napoli 2-0 in their opening group game.
Napoli keeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic produced a string of stunning saves to frustrate City in the first half, while Kevin de Bruyne’s return to the Etihad lasted only 26 minutes before being substituted after Giovanni di Lorenzo’s red card.
Haaland finally broke the deadlock with a header from Phil Foden’s pass, before Jeremy Doku sealed victory to get Pep Guardiola’s side off to a winning start in Europe.
