Harry Brook became the first England batter in 34 years to score a triple-century, hitting 317 on an astonishing fourth day of the Test match against Pakistan in Multan.
Brook and Joe Root broke several records, including a massive 454-run partnership, leading England to a commanding 823-7 declared. England’s total, the fourth-highest in their history, gave them a lead of 267 despite Pakistan’s 556 in the first innings. The extraordinary batting display left Pakistan struggling at 152-6 in their second innings, still 115 runs short of making England bat again.
The day saw Brook’s incredible performance as he reached his 300 in just 29 balls, the 32nd instance of a triple century in Test cricket, before being dismissed with the fifth-highest score by an Englishman.
Root also excelled, adding 262 and becoming England’s all-time leading Test run-scorer. England’s bowlers capitalized on Pakistan’s brittle lineup, with Chris Woakes dismissing Abdullah Shafique on the first ball of their second innings. Pakistan faltered after tea, and with the pitch suddenly offering more help, England’s win looks almost inevitable.
