Henry’s historic haul powers Black Caps to dominant Oval victory

New Zealand produced a commanding performance to crush England by 253 runs in the second Test at The Oval, levelling the three-match series at 1-1 and setting up a decisive finale at Trent Bridge.

The Black Caps posted 391 in their first innings, highlighted by Glenn Phillips’ century, before adding 362 in the second innings through a superb 121 from Henry Nicholls, supported by Rachin Ravindra’s 76 and Daryl Mitchell’s 68.

Chasing an imposing 463 for victory, England resumed the final day on 182-5 but were quickly dismantled by seamer Matt Henry, who claimed 6-29 to finish with match figures of 11-109.

Henry’s haul was the best by a New Zealander in a Test in England and included his first 10-wicket match performance, as the hosts were bowled out for 209 despite resistance from Joe Root (76) and Harry Brook (58).
