Hurricanes crush Brumbies in record-breaking finals rout

The Hurricanes delivered a dominant display in Wellington, overwhelming the ACT Brumbies 66-12 to record the biggest defeat ever suffered by an Australian side in a Super Rugby finals match.

The top-seeded New Zealanders effectively ended the contest before halftime, racing to a 38-7 lead and capitalising on a series of Brumbies errors in difficult conditions.

Playmaker Ruben Love orchestrated the attack superbly, finishing with a flawless kicking performance, while Cam Roigard scored twice and Ngane Punivai grabbed a second-half hat-trick.

The emphatic victory extended the long-running drought for Australian teams in Super Rugby finals played in New Zealand, leaving the Queensland Reds as the latest side tasked with trying to break the hoodoo.
