Callum Harkin and Fehi Fineanganofo led the Hurricanes to a commanding 42-19 victory over the Blues in a top-of-the-table Super Rugby Pacific clash in Wellington, ending a two-year drought against their North Island rivals at home.
The Hurricanes controlled early possession and territory, racing to a 14-0 lead through tries to Harkin and Billy Proctor, before the Blues responded with scores from AJ Lam and Caleb Clarke to briefly close the gap.
However Fineanganofo’s powerful try before halftime restored momentum, and the hosts pulled away in the second half with further scores from Asafo Aumua, Harkin—who finished with a double—and Cam Roigard.
Despite a brief Blues resurgence while the Hurricanes were down to 14 men, the home side proved too clinical, sealing a statement win to strengthen their position at the top of the table.
